Today's (Jan 26) Biggest Transfer News

With 5 days remaining in the January transfer window, deals are starting to be finished at a rapid pace as we are figuring out which rumors are true and which ones aren't. Clubs are trying to make a big impact now to make a push for the Champions League, getting in Europe, a midtable finish, or just surviving. The loan market may be a popular route to sign players but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said that only players 21 and under should be loaned. Well Mr. Wenger, stop being a hypocrite, you have a 31-year old at your club. As Wenger once again makes some negative headlines, here are today's biggest headlines as the end of the month approaches.

QPR eyes Wigan FW Victor Moses, Wigan ST Hugo Rodallega, Nancy CDM Samba Diakite, Tottenham winger Steven Pienaar, and Manchester City CB Nedum Onuoha.
Mark Hughes is looking to make a big impact on QPR before the window ends after he signed Taye Taiwo on loan from AC Milan for the rest of the season as Hughes looks to keep QPR in the Premier League. The Onuoha deal seems to be taking forever but now it finally looks like Onuoha is getting set for 3 million euro move to Loftus Road. Onuoha has seen limited playing time at Manchester City and he will be relieved to get this deal done.  The paperwork is the last thing that needs to be wrapped up now to finish this deal off. Onuoha will immediately start at centerback beside Anton Ferdinand most likely which should be a decent pair as they were both at Sunderland last season due to Onuoha being on loan at the Stadium of Light. The pair of centerbacks should not have any communication problems. QPR is also looking at the Wigan attacking duo of Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses. The Daily Mirror is reporting that Mark Hughes is plotting a four million euro bid for Rodallega after he came out and said that he would be leaving the DW Stadium this season. Roberto Martinez will probably want to get something for Rodallega and this is an offer that I would take if I was Roberto Martinez because of the improvement of Franco Di Santo. QPR has been looking for a striker and Rodallega would definitely see a move to Loftus Road as an upgrade over Wigan or a move to West Ham who are also after him to try to help their promotion chase. Rodallega will be that striker that QPR has not had and this deal will get done because Rodallega will be moving on at the end of the season and that Roberto Martinez doesn't want to lose him for nothing. Wigan FW Victor Moses has also failed to agree to a contract extension with the Latics which has fueled rumors as Roberto Martinez will try to keep Moses because of the success he has had at the DW this season. I think Moses will stay at Wigan till the end of the season and then he will leave in the summer even if Wigan somehow stays in the top flight once again. However, Martinez might be more willing to sell Victor Moses now that he has signed Chilean international Jean Beausejour. This will probably go down to the wire on the 31st. Nancy and Mali international defensive midfielder Samba Diakite is also a target for Mark Hughes as the 23 year old is reportedly closing on either a loan move with a 3.5 million euro buyout clause at the end or a 3.5 million euro permanent move. Diakite would add some depth to the midfield and he has the potential to be pretty good as he almost made a move to Serie A side Udinese in the summer. Diakite has been allowed to leave the Africa Cup of Nations to finish this deal out so this should get done because of the effort Diakite is putting into getting this done. However, the most prized target for Mark Hughes is Tottenham winger Steven Pienaar. Tottenham have put the price to sign occasionally used winger Steven Pienaar at six million euros and Pienaar has some interest in leaving for playing time but Harry Redknapp wants to keep him as they try to win the Premier League. I don't think that Mark Hughes will be able to sign Pienaar but I do think Nedum Onuoha, Hugo Rodallega, and Samba Diakite will all end up at Loftus Road. I'm not sure about Victor Moses as no offer has been made yet.

Fulham looking at FC Twente forward Nacer Chadli.
Reports have emerged that Fulham manager Martin Jol is still trying to sign FC Twente attacker Nacer Chadli who Jol failed to sign over the summer for Fulham. Martin Jol has good realtions with FC Twente after he signed Costa Rican international Bryan Ruiz from the Eredivisie side in the summer. Chadli is only 22 years old as he is one of the best wingers playing in the Netherlands right now. The Belgian would embrace a move to the Premier League as he fights to get a normal spot in the Belgian national team. A move for Chadli could be a sign that star Clint Dempsey is looking for a move to a bigger club after the stellar form he has been showing this season as he has been one of the best players in the whole Premier League. Chadli could also be a sign that they are disappointed in the performance of his former teammate Bryan Ruiz. With rumors that Damien Duff could be on the move, Chadli could be a replacement for him if he his part of a move for someone like West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie. Chadli has the potential to become a quality player for Fulham and with his age, Martin Jol should be willing to meet the 7 million euro price tag. However, a move for Chadli might have to wait till the summer as he is still a key player in the starting 11 for FC Twente.

Barcelona (soon to be free agent reported by the Metro) MF Alexander Hleb
Barcelona's Belarusian midfielder Alexander Hleb has not had any sort of playing time recently at Barcelona as the European Champions were offering him to Premier League clubs in an attempt to get rid of his wages but as those attempts have failed, Barcelona is now preparing to release him, making him available on a free transfer. The Belarusian is looking to restart his career in the Premier League as this release has attracted the interest of Liverpool and QPR. Hleb hopes to refind the form that allowed him to make a move from Arsenal to Barcelona years ago. I don't understand why Liverpool would be interested in a move for him as he would get no playing and he would just take up some of the wage budget. QPR might be able to actually give him the playing time that he needs in order to try to turn around his career into one that is successful once again. Hleb is going to be a risk for any team that signs him as he has not proven how good he can be after he struggled while on loan at Birmingham. Hleb is a gamble and I think a move to the Bundesliga is probably more likely than one to the Premier League because of his struggles at Birmingham last year.

Newcastle United is trying to sign Watford CB Adrian Mariappa
Mariappa has become a major target of Newcastle manager Alan Pardew as Pardew is looking for some cover on the backline. Pardew has already had an offer rejected by Watford for Mariappa of around 2 million euros as they seem to be looking for around 5 million euros. However, Watford might decide to accept an offer of around 3 million euros as Mariappa has rejected a contract extension at Watford which gave him a minimal raise. Mariappa is only 25 years old and is one of the most underrated centerbacks in the Championship right now as he has made a total of 234 times for the club. He called Watford's contract extension offer "insulting" and Watford may forced to sell a player that is starting to grow unhappy at the club. Newcastle will put a lot of pressure on Watford to get a deal done as they know that the attraction to the Premier League will also help Mariappa to put some pressure on Watford. At the end of the day, I think Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will get this deal done since he desperately needs some defensive cover.

Other News and Notes
Everton manager David Moyes is looking at making a one million euro move for AEK Athens young centerback Kostas Manolas. Manolas is only 20 years old and is one of the best young centerbacks in the world as one million euros would be a steal of a deal for David Moyes who has finally been allowed to bring in some fresh faces. Manolas should definitely be interested in the opportunity to move to the Premier League as he would get the chance to learn behind quality centerbacks like Phil Jaigelka. Manolas has the potential to be the next breakthrough centerback like Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic were for Borussia Dortmund. Manolas might not end up being that good but he should be at least as good as Phil Jaigelka.
