Kalou to West Ham? Shaqiri to Manchester United?Today's Biggest Transfer News

Six days remain in the transfer window and there are still plenty of rumors going around but not much happening at all. Players like Carlos Tevez are still wondering where they will be playing at the beginning of February. Here is today's biggest transfer news as some moves are probably close to happening.

Chelsea FW Salomon Kalou
Kalou has been looking for a move away from Stamford Bridge and now he has been linked with a loan move to West Ham as they are looking to make a great push to get promoted back to the Premier League. Kalou is a seen as an upgrade at striker by Sam Allardyce as he wants to bring West Ham back to the Premier League. Kalou would love to be able to regain his form so he could get a move to another top club that will be able to give him a spot in the starting 11. Kalou is a very good goalscorer but has been unfourtunate to be stuck behind so many others up top for Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas. However, Kalou will probably not be interested in dropping down a flight and will look for a move across the Premier League.

FC Basel Xherdan Shaqiri
A couple of days ago, Turkish club Galatasary had an offer for one of the best young players in Europe Basel's Xherdan Shaqiri. Shaqiri is going to get to play in the knockout rounds of the Champions League if he stays at Basel but Manchester United is now plotting a move for the 20 year old midfielder who helped to knock them out of the Champions League this year. Shaqiri has a lot of potential to be a superstar and it is amazing that he hasn't been sold to a big time club yet due to his potential and how he has been on clubs' radars for years. Sir Alex Ferguson would definitely love to bring in a player like this but Shaqiri is a winger and not a central midfielder. The 20 million euros it would probably take to sign him would be better spent on a creative central midfielder like Newcastle United's Yohan Cabaye who has proven he can play anywhere with his successful performances for Lille last year and Newcastle United this year. Shaqiri would be stuck behind Nani, Ashley Young, and Antonio Valencia at Manchester United and would have to be loaned out to get any playing time. Manchester United needs to focus on getting a central midfielder like Inter's Wesley Sneijder or Cabaye, and not a player who can't help them in their title chase like Shaqiri. Manchester United should wait till the summer to make a move for Shaqiri.

Transfer Roundup
Genk midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is finally closing on an eight million euro move to Chelsea. De Bruyne has been a target of the Stamford Bridge side for a while as now it looks like a deal is finally about to be finished. De Bruyne will head back to Genk on loan for the rest of the season but Chelsea gets another great young player from Belgium just like Romelu Lukaku.
Nicky Maynard now looks like he will not be headed to Wigan as they have denied that they even made an offer. Maynard probably would prefer a move to somewhere else in the Premier League because Wigan are looking like they are headed for relegation at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Wigan have signed Chilean international Jean Beausejour from Birmingham for four million euros. Roberto Martinez hopes Beausejour can lead a turnaround to keep Wigan up in the Premier League. However, I think Wigan is a sinking ship and they will not be back in the Premier League next season.
