The 2012 Masters

This was one of the most exciting Masters in recent memory as Bubba Watson made a great run on the back 9 to tie Louis Oosthuizen and then beat him. This year's Masters told us a lot about the future of golf including the fact that Tiger Woods is no longer as consistent as he used to be. Tiger seemed to be less frustrated after the final round this year than last year as he actually moved on from the tournament unlike last year. Phil Mickelson could not get over the two triple bogeys he had this weekend as if you take those two shots off the scorecard and make them pars instead, Mickelson would have won by 4 shots. Phil knows he could have won his fourth green jacket but Mickelson will definitely move on to the next tournament as this will not haunt him. Matt Kuchar has some big shots but a double bogey on 9 and a bogey on 16 cost him a shot at winning. Lee Westwood made a strong charge today to get up to 8-under par but he threw away a few shots today which prevented him from having a shot to win. Peter Hanson could not get any momentum going today after a great round yesterday as he knows that he was not good enough to win today.

This year's Masters came down to Oosthuizen and Watson as they electirfied the crowds all day. Ooosthuizen's double eagle on the second hole was one of the best shots of the day but not the best. Bubba Watson had a great run of birdies as he made 4 in a row from 13 to 16 as that put him right in contention. Oosthuizen's impressive composure gave him a shot to win his first green jacket and second major while Watson's great run set up the playoff. The first playoff hole was a wash but the second one was full of excitement. Bubba Watson's pulled a great shot out of the woods to get in on the green while Louis Oosthuizen failed to get on the green. Oosthuizen's bogey gave Watson two putts to win and he got the job done. Bubba Watson has the potential to win more majors after this one and he should definitely contend at the next major, the US Open. Oosthuizen will be disappointed but he will rebound and be a contender at all the other majors. Bubba Watson is a worthy champion of this year's Masters and a player that can be more than a one time major champion.
