In other Euro 2012 News
France playmaker Samir Nasri fears defeat to England in their opening group game could be a disaster for their Euro 2012 campaign. Nasri, who is 9/1 with bet365 to score first when the two teams meet on Monday, is well aware of the threat Roy Hodgson's side will pose to their qualification hopes. He will come face-to-face with a number of his Manchester City team-mates and is determined to ensure that Les Bleus kick-off their Group D qualification bid with a win. Nasri told France Football: "Against England there is no choice, I need a win. Otherwise I will go back to City and be teased by everyone. "The only advantage I can see at the moment is the suspension of Wayne Rooney. But England are England, they are amazing fighters and competitors.

Sports betting systems
There's always a lot of storytelling and a lot of controversy surrounding sports betting systems. Obviously there are tons of myths about such systems as well. They're a bit like winning casino systems: people kind of know that they can't possibly work the way he some folks say they do, yet they cling to the belief that somebody out there probably much smarter than them, may have thought of something that could beat the house in casino gambling and turn the bookmaker’s juice against him in sports betting. The truth of the matter is: there are sports betting systems out there that work. The only problem is these systems don't quite look like the ones advertised on various websites for a handful of dollars, which claim to post incredible winning percentages of over 90%. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure that most of the so-called betting systems are nothing but a bunch of baloney. No reasonable sports bettor will ever believe that someone can post winning rates of over 90%. This is just unreal. Something like 55% or 60% maybe but sometimes even that is a long shot. You see, according to experts, winning sports betting feels a lot like losing.
Despite the fact that you walk away a long-term winner, you still lose quite a large percentage of your overall bets. One of the biggest psychological challenges presented by sports betting lies in the very fact that you never really quite feel like a winner, even when you are one. Anyway, how is it then that these false sports betting systems can actually back their claims up with numbers? The explanation is surprisingly simple, and quite probably rather disappointing for many of the “believers” out there.
Most of these incredibly successful sports betting systems are based on chasing the losses. That's right, you read that right. And because you are a sports bettor you probably know that chasing your losses is the worst thing you can possibly do as far as bankroll management is concerned.
Here's how these systems arrive to the numbers of they’re advertising: after every losing bet, they advise the player to double his wager. For online gamblers this approach may seem eerily familiar as most of them have heard and probably even given a shot to the Martingale system. The Martingale system is a fallacious chase system, which only really works in theory. The most important problem with it is that it requires an endless bankroll on the part of the player, a condition which obviously cannot possibly be fulfilled in the real world.
The chase system assumes that the bettor will hit a winning bet before his roll runs out. That single win will then recover all his previous losses plus it will spice things up with a little bit of profit on top. With that in mind, the system never really considers the losses that occur along the way. For all practical reasons, it only considers the last winning bet which turns the tide in favor of the player. This is how the fabulous winning rates are achieved.
I probably shouldn't tell you why such an approach can’t possibly work in the real world. Are there are sports betting systems out there that do indeed work though? Of course there are. Every successful sports bettor uses one. These systems are much more modest when it comes to winning rates though, and they're a lot harder to work with too.
Every successful sports betting system comes in two parts. Part one is about bankroll management. Bankroll management is not an overly complicated issue but if applied incorrectly it will pretty much void the results generated by the second part. The second part is about finding the hidden value: the only way to find any sort of positive expected value in your bets. Obviously, finding the hidden value is not an easy task.
Good bettors spent tons of time tracking lines and analyzing line movements. Handicapping is also part of the deal as well as reverse handicapping. The bottom line is: in order to find value and to efficiently exploit it, you need to work your butt off and you have to remain 100% focused and disciplined at all times. The whole thing is reminiscent of successful poker play. Do your homework, pay your dues and with a little bit of luck, success may just stumble upon you.
Of course, in poker you can also use rakeback deals to better your odds. Check out rakemeback.com for such rakeback deals, or if you want the works, check out some of the poker prop deals offered by pokerprops.com. Remember, you can't possibly consider yourself a sharp player unless you are on the receiving end of one of these loyalty setups.

Sports betting - handling losing streaks
Like poker, sports betting is a kind of activity that can be potentially psychologically straining on the player. Few people realize it, but both winning and losing streaks exact a psychological toll on players, that can lead to potential faults in the system they’re using. Winners can get greedy and wager more, this way kicking up a carefully balanced and well thought-out bankroll management system. Handling winning streaks is always easier than coping with losing streaks though. Losing streaks have the ungodly ability to make players chase their losses, which is the equivalent of going on tilt in poker. Needless to say, there’s nothing more destructive for your bankroll than that.
Here’s a brief list of what measures you can take when you’re hit by a losing streak, in order to help you tide your bankroll through the rough times to possibly see better days and to claw your way back above the red line.
Don’t watch the games you wager on. Unless you’re one of those utterly light-hearted recreational bettors who only bet to add some salt and pepper to the regular excitement of watching a game, you really shouldn’t watch the games on which you have action. The emotional high and lows provided by such games expose you to unnecessary stress. Seeing the match swing the other way in the last few seconds of action due to an erroneous call by the referee is a surefire way to tilt.
Venting is actually not a bad idea when it comes to losing streaks. Call your friends, or step outside and shout your woes into the wild blue yonder, just make sure you get over it as soon as possible. You do not want to stew in your anger a second longer than absolutely necessary.
Never forget to step back and to take a look at the bigger picture. Maybe you’ve lost money over a week’s time, but you may still be ahead for the month. Focus on what you did well when you were winning and try to replicate those actions. Don’t let your losing streak sway you: if you’re playing with EV+ you will turn a profit, all you need is some patience.
The “what if” is quite probably the biggest enemy of the bettor. The biggest problem with “what if” scenarios is that they carry faulty math. You may win $100 and ponder on about how you could’ve won $300 instead, had you made slightly different decisions. In hindsight, everything in much clearer in sports betting as well as in life in general. You can’t begin to base your future decisions on “what if” mathematics though because they just don’t work.
Successful sports betting can often feel weird: more precisely it can feel a lot like losing. Even extremely successful bettors often lose close to 50% of their bets. Stop chasing that “feeling like a winner” thing, because you’ll probably never find it and you’ll hurt your bankroll in the process too.
Take a long hard look at your losses and try to analyze them in a level-headed manner. I know it is difficult to get over your losses while analyzing them, but if you want to improve radically, this is the best way to do it. Take a look at the way the line moved, at the box scores and focus on clues you may have picked up but failed to act on for whatever reason.
Bet less. This is quite the opposite of chasing your losses. When you feel like you can’t really get anything right, stop pushing the envelope and pull back on the reins a little. This is a decent damage-control measure that will allow you to protect your bankroll while riding out losing streaks.
Damage control is equally important in online poker. Playing less when things don’t seem to work out is always a great idea, but an even better damage-control tool is rakeback. Sign up for a rakeback deal at rakemeback.com and you’ll limit your losses seriously. You may even get paid to play through one of pokerprops.com’s poker prop deals.

Football Betting 2010-2011 Season
HELLO! It’s Good to be Back!
Get Behind ‘em!
A certain ex-pop star was delighted with Spurs’ Champion’s League draw but commented that he thought Harry’s men failed to get on top in Tuesday’s clash and must get into their opposition more in the second leg. “Get behind them!” He insisted. It’s the third leg I’d be worried about if I was a Young Boy. Anyway, this certain observer says he’s fed up with the police and the media giving him a hard time since he came home from Thailand. He says he just wants everyone to leave him alone so he can settle down and have kids.
Anyway, what of Spurs’ chances in the Premier league this time? Having qualified for the lucrative Champion’s League last season, Tottenham fans are anticipating going one better this time. Did they see the lacklustre opening against Manchester City last weekend? Never mind their poor attempt to handle the young boys on Tuesday night. Spurs are around 5/2 to repeat last season’s accolade (finish top 4) and I wouldn’t touch that with someone else’s. It’s a terrible price, which is what Crouchy said when he was quoted £800 for a Spanish hooker. As for Saturday, it’s a tough trip to the Britannia to face Stoke and again there’s no value in Spurs at evens . The draw, however, is very tempting at 11/5. Get on.
Man City v Liverpool
Liverpool are handily priced at around 13/8 on Betfair to finish in the top 4 this season which I feel is great value as they now have a capable manager and have kept their good players. So too have Arsenal, who are heavy odds on for top 4 and 6/1 to win it. Liverpool are 14/1 to take the title. I won’t be taking any of these but the Northerners are marginally better value. As for this coming weekend, Liverpool follow up their tough start to the season with a trip down the road to Manchester to face the wealthy City. Liverpool are nicely priced at 7/4; City are 5/4 and the draw is 11/5. Get on Liverpool to exploit City’s defence.
Gooners
As for the Gooners, an appealing home time with the Blackpool rockers. Let’s hope Marlon Harewood and Gareth Taylor-Fletcher have stopped rocking in celebration of their mauling of Wigan last week to put in some training for what will be an altogether different proposition. I can see a reversal of their opening day score-line; sorry, Seasiders. Arsenal will win comfortably at 1/7. The punters/bookies of Betfair are still offering 5/2 about Blackpool surviving...wait, before you North-Westerners pile in, wait until after they are hammered by Arsenal: the price is sure to drift like a Blackpool barge in a thunderstorm; they’ll be 3/1 by Monday.
Mardy Martin O’Neil
The early game on Sunday sees Aston Villa travel to the toon to play the new Geordie boys. Villa are almost 3/1 to finish in the top 6 this season which is wonderful value for the team that finished sixth last season...and the season before...and the season before that. Surely they should be odds on? Of course, Martin O’Neil has done one like the proverbial mardy bum, which actually means that Villa will be better and some of their squad may actually have the opportunity to play. Newcastle will have their work cut out on Saturday which makes the 8/5 about them winning a fair price. Villa will win this one, though, at 11/8. Newcastle are 7/2 to get relegated on Betfair which is rather tempting...
Super Sunday
Super Sunday pitches Fulham against Manchester United at the cottage. Now, I fully expect United to mount a decent title challenge this season, but I also expect Fulham to push towards the top half of the table and to do so they will need tiptop performances against teams like these. Get on Fulham at 4/1 to spring a shock on Sunday. Further, take a gander at 14/1 against Fulham finishing in the top 6 – it’s rather tempting, isn’t it?
Baggies and Black Cats
One of the closest encounters on Saturday will be West Brom against Sunderland. The baggies will bounce back from their trouncing by the champions last week. Get on West Brom to bag some black cats at 6/4.
Respect to the Champions
As for the champions, to Wigan they head. Watch out Latics, the Blues have been rampant of late and John Terry, Ashley Cole et al have started treating the opposition as they treat their women: decidedly disrespectfully; 2/9’s a terrible price but the Blues are certainties.
Blowing Bubbles
Last and probably least it’s Wham against Bolton. George Michael enjoys blowing bubbles and the fans will join him on Saturday as the Hammers (Evens) pick up their first points this season. George, however, has 12 on his licence already...
Wager of the weekend
West Brom to beat Sunderland at 6/4; Stoke/Spurs draw @ 11/5; Liverpool to win at Man City @ 7/4. This treble pays around 21/1 at Ladbrokes.
If you add Fulham at 4/1 to the above selections, you’ll be looking at £1100 back for your tenner.
Season tempters
Liverpool to finish in the top 4: 13/8
Villa to finish in the top 6 AGAIN: 3/1
Newcastle to be relegated: 7/2
(All prices on Betfair)
If you can convince a bookie to give you all of the above as a treble, you’ll be looking at over 40/1. Now, that is tempting!

Sporting predictions by Chris Clegg
April 3-4, 2010
Hope you all got on last time out? Below was the five-way wager of the weekend:
Sunderland to beat Brum @ Evs; Spurs to win at Stoke @ 21/20; Pompey to hump Hull @ Evs; Arsenal to beat West Ham @ 1/5 and Wigan to beat Burnley @ 7/10. The five-wayer pays over £160 for a tenner.
Stick with me, punters, next time this year we'll be millionaires!!! Or is it this time, next year? Either way, have a butchers at this week's...
All Square at Old Trafford?
What an early kick-off we have in store on Saturday at Old Trafford as Carlo's lot visit from London. Of course, this would have been the battle of the sharp-shooters had the Roondog not hurt his ankle in Tuesday's fight with zee Germans. Luckily for England fans, he should be back for the summer's world war. The Drogdog will be playing though, despite the fact that Chelsea really didn't need him last time out in their demolition of JLS (Aston) Villa. As the booookies predict, this one will be close, closer than close. The draw is 21/10 and I think it's nailed on.
Black Coffee serving at the Emirates
Down at The Emirates, Arsenal entertain the Wolves, without Cesc Fabregas it would appear. Arsenal without Cesc are like coffee without sugar - it just doesn't taste right but you drink it if you have to. Arsenal won't taste very good without their sweet star which is a shame as they also lost their milk earlier in the season. Had van Persie and Fabregas been fit throughout the season, the coffee would have gone down a treat and Arsenal may have just been topping the table. So it's a strong black at the Emirates which will be suffice to tame the Wolves. Home win @ 1/6 methinks.
Everybody in love?
Up at the Reebok, JLS will be performing as Aston visits the Wanderers. Villa will want to bounce back from their heavy defeat last week but if Bolton put their Marigolds on, JLS will struggle to Beat Bolton Again. Put your hands up if you're backing another draw at 9/4? The home win is also tempting at 2/1.
Inconsistent Pompey
Down on the south coast, Pompey entertain , well they play against, Blackburn. Away from home, Rovers are about as consistent as my nan's custard and may just serve up Pompey's seventh win of the season. Home win here. 21/10 is very generous.
Take a nap at the Britannia
At the Britannia, Stoke could jump above Blackburn into the top ten if they see off Hull. Sorry, when they see off Hull. This is the nap of the day – well, if you watch it you'll fall asleep. Boring home win at the Potteries (4/5).
Share and Share alike at the Stadium of Light
Up in the North East, Sunderland play host to Spurs and Tottenham can cement their 4 th Champion's league position with a victory. Having said that, the Black cats have sharpened their claws recently and Bent, Darren, has found his footing once again. So many close encounters this weekend and this one will be no different. Share of the spoils between Bruce and Harry (23/10). Sunderland are 5/2 if you're tempted by a home win?
Moor Shocks on the Turf
Last but not least on Saturday, Moor football in Burnley as Manchester City are visiting. The home win is very tempting at 4/1 and Burnley fans will be piling in. City are horrendous value at 7/10. The result of this one will depend on which Manchester will turn up. Like my nan's gravy, City are not as smooth as they should be. A loss on Saturday could see City 5 points off the sacred Champion's league positions come Saturday evening. A win for Burnley could bring them level on points with safety and "I've got a feeling (wooooohoooooo!!!)" that Saturday night will be a good night in Burnley as the 4/1 shot romps home. City will be crocked and shocked: Europa league for the Blues?
The Wicked Witch of West Ham
On Sunday, the not-so-happy Hammers travel up to Merseyside to face the Toffeemen. It has been a very sticky time for Zola of late and events at Upton Park are backing up the assertion that not all world-class players can become successful managers – Alan Shearer can vouch for that. Zola was a wizard on the pitch but is fast becoming the wicked witch of Wham. Many managers are waiting in the wings, claiming “I'm your man” to takeover the Claret-reins. Whoever it may be might just be a step closer on Saturday as Moyes' men inflict more misery on the Witches of East Ham. (2/5 the Toffees)
Super Sunday
Fulham Fairies flourish
The Wiganers are cottaging on Sunday, Craven thereof. Wigan are thirty goals worse-off than their London counterparts and this will show as Bobby Z and co go to town on their Northern rivals. It's not often Northerners lose out to Southern fairies, alas this will be one of those days. Big win for Fulham. Get on at Evens.
A Blue visit for the Reds
The last premiership game of the weekend is at St. Andrews and the Blues are handily priced at 19/5 to beat Liverpool. The Reds are a bit like my nan's cheese sauce: sometimes they look and taste great; other times they are a disgrace, make you feel sick and should never be allowed to be put out on the table...sorry, pitch. Still, regardless of how bad the cheese sauce is, nan's fans accept it and never tell her how bad it is, which makes the neutrals gob smacked! Rafa guaranteed fourth place a few weeks ago; Liverpool are now 4 points off the position and have played a game more than the team currently sitting there - Spurs. They'll have played another on Saturday and won't be any closer as another long shot comes in. Get on the home win at 19/5 to continue Brum's amazing campaign: they have only lost two games at home through the entire season.
Weekend Wagers
Trebles for Show
Chelsea Liverpool draw (21/10); Sunderland Spurs draw (23/10) and Bolton/Villa draw (9/4). In excess of £300 for a tenner. Oooooooh that's nice.
Doubles for Dough
Burnley to beat Man City (4/1) on Saturday and Birmingham to beat Liverpool (19/5) on Sunday. £240 back for a tenner. Larrrrrrvely.
