A certain ex-pop star was delighted with Spurs’ Champion’s League draw but commented that he thought Harry’s men failed to get on top in Tuesday’s clash and must get into their opposition more in the second leg. “Get behind them!” He insisted. It’s the third leg I’d be worried about if I was a Young Boy. Anyway, this certain observer says he’s fed up with the police and the media giving him a hard time since he came home from Thailand. He says he just wants everyone to leave him alone so he can settle down and have kids.

Anyway, what of Spurs’ chances in the Premier league this time? Having qualified for the lucrative Champion’s League last season, Tottenham fans are anticipating going one better this time. Did they see the lacklustre opening against Manchester City last weekend? Never mind their poor attempt to handle the young boys on Tuesday night. Spurs are around 5/2 to repeat last season’s accolade (finish top 4) and I wouldn’t touch that with someone else’s. It’s a terrible price, which is what Crouchy said when he was quoted £800 for a Spanish hooker. As for Saturday, it’s a tough trip to the Britannia to face Stoke and again there’s no value in Spurs at evens . The draw, however, is very tempting at 11/5. Get on.

Man City v Liverpool

Liverpool are handily priced at around 13/8 on Betfair to finish in the top 4 this season which I feel is great value as they now have a capable manager and have kept their good players. So too have Arsenal, who are heavy odds on for top 4 and 6/1 to win it. Liverpool are 14/1 to take the title. I won’t be taking any of these but the Northerners are marginally better value. As for this coming weekend, Liverpool follow up their tough start to the season with a trip down the road to Manchester to face the wealthy City. Liverpool are nicely priced at 7/4; City are 5/4 and the draw is 11/5. Get on Liverpool to exploit City’s defence.

Gooners

As for the Gooners, an appealing home time with the Blackpool rockers. Let’s hope Marlon Harewood and Gareth Taylor-Fletcher have stopped rocking in celebration of their mauling of Wigan last week to put in some training for what will be an altogether different proposition. I can see a reversal of their opening day score-line; sorry, Seasiders. Arsenal will win comfortably at 1/7. The punters/bookies of Betfair are still offering 5/2 about Blackpool surviving...wait, before you North-Westerners pile in, wait until after they are hammered by Arsenal: the price is sure to drift like a Blackpool barge in a thunderstorm; they’ll be 3/1 by Monday.

Mardy Martin O’Neil

The early game on Sunday sees Aston Villa travel to the toon to play the new Geordie boys. Villa are almost 3/1 to finish in the top 6 this season which is wonderful value for the team that finished sixth last season...and the season before...and the season before that. Surely they should be odds on? Of course, Martin O’Neil has done one like the proverbial mardy bum, which actually means that Villa will be better and some of their squad may actually have the opportunity to play. Newcastle will have their work cut out on Saturday which makes the 8/5 about them winning a fair price. Villa will win this one, though, at 11/8. Newcastle are 7/2 to get relegated on Betfair which is rather tempting...

Super Sunday

Super Sunday pitches Fulham against Manchester United at the cottage. Now, I fully expect United to mount a decent title challenge this season, but I also expect Fulham to push towards the top half of the table and to do so they will need tiptop performances against teams like these. Get on Fulham at 4/1 to spring a shock on Sunday. Further, take a gander at 14/1 against Fulham finishing in the top 6 – it’s rather tempting, isn’t it?

Baggies and Black Cats

One of the closest encounters on Saturday will be West Brom against Sunderland. The baggies will bounce back from their trouncing by the champions last week. Get on West Brom to bag some black cats at 6/4.

Respect to the Champions

As for the champions, to Wigan they head. Watch out Latics, the Blues have been rampant of late and John Terry, Ashley Cole et al have started treating the opposition as they treat their women: decidedly disrespectfully; 2/9’s a terrible price but the Blues are certainties.

Blowing Bubbles

Last and probably least it’s Wham against Bolton. George Michael enjoys blowing bubbles and the fans will join him on Saturday as the Hammers (Evens) pick up their first points this season. George, however, has 12 on his licence already...

West Brom to beat Sunderland at 6/4; Stoke/Spurs draw @ 11/5; Liverpool to win at Man City @ 7/4. This treble pays around 21/1 at Ladbrokes.
